Jesse and Brittany welcome Robert P. Jones, founder and president of the Public Religion Research Institute, to discuss his new book, “The Hidden Roots of White Supremacy and the Path to a Shared American Future.” Together, they discuss the origins of the white supremacy problem in America, which Robert tracked back to the Doctrine of Discovery with a focus on the brutality against indigenous people, including their forced removal and killing. In the book and the discussion, there is a particular focus on historic events for indigenous and enslaved people in Mississippi, Minnesota, and Oklahoma. Together, they discuss the lasting impact of the white supremacy problem in America today and the steps we can take to work toward righting the wrongs of the past.
